Former upscale Winnipeg eatery Restaurant Dubrovnik, which closed its doors a year ago, is being demolished today to make way for the new D Condo housing development on downtown Assiniboine Avenue.
An Imrie Construction crew is knocking down the two-storey building at 390 Assiniboine Ave. so developer Sandu Developments Inc. can begin conducting bedrock tests on the site.
Sandu Developments owner Karampaul Sandu said last week the tests are required so architects can design the foundation for the 24-storey, 91-unit complex and apply for a foundation permit from the city.
He said the company hopes to start pouring the foundation this summer, with the goal of completing the project by the spring of 2015.
In addition to the 91 two- and three-bedroom condos, the D Condo complex will include a multi-level parkade, a two-storey lobby area and an outdoor terrace.
The project is one of two highrise residential developments in the works for the downtown portion of Assiniboine Avenue. Work is already underway on Crystal Developers Limited’s Heritage Landing apartment complex. The 25-storey, 215-unit complex is being built on another riverside property a couple of blocks to the east, at 300 Assiniboine Ave.
