An injury has swung open the door of opportunity for Winnipegger Taylor Renaud.
The Blue Bombers announced Monday morning the signing of Renaud, a 6-2, 200-pound product of St. Paul’s High School who has starred the last two years at Acadia University. His signing comes just two days after it was announced draft pick Mike DiCroce, a fourth-round draft pick of the club this spring, had broken his foot in practice and was likely done for the year. It was the same foot DiCroce broke at McMaster University last year and which cost him all of his regular season before he returned to star in the playoffs.
Renaud led the Atlantic Conference in receiving over the last two years and was named a second team All-Canadian last season after pulling in 51 passes for 749 yards and three touchdowns. The two-time AUS All-Star finished his collegiate career with 95 receptions for 1,600 yards and nine touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the team also announced the release of import linebacker Daniel Sheffield, who had yet to report to training camp.
