Lucky 13 get qualifying offers from Jets

The Winnipeg Jets have extended qualifying offers to 13 of their 17 impending restricted free agents, offers which will allow them to hold on to those players' rights as they work on negotiations.

The Winnipeg Jets have extended qualifying offers to 13 of their 17 impending restricted free agents, offers which will allow them to hold on to those players’ rights as they work on negotiations.

No surprises here: on the big squad, the team qualified blueliners Zach Bogosian, Paul Postma and Zach Redmond. On the forward end of the rink, the Jets will keep negotiating rights to Alexander Burmistrov, Bryan Little, Blake Wheeler, Eric Tangradi and Anthony Peluso.

The Jets also qualified defenceman Arturs Kulda, who played in the KHL for most of last season but signed on with the Jets late in the season, although he never made his way onto the ice with the team.

Among players the Jets had under contract who were playing in the minor leagues, the team qualified St. John’s IceCaps goaltender Edward Pasquale as well as skaters Patrice Cormier, Tomas Kubalik, and Eric O’Dell, who had a breakout year playing for the Jets’ AHL affiliate.

The Jets did not qualify Winnipeg-born forward Jason Gregoire, who joined the organization as a promising free agent but failed to generate much success in St. John’s.

They also did not qualify goaltender Chris Carrozzi, who spent the last few seasons labouring in the ECHL, defenceman Will O’Neill, or forward Maxime Macenauer, who was given a short look at the Jets’ training camp last year but failed to make the big club.
