Bombers ‘have a good scheme against what Toronto is going to do,’ says Burke

After putting his squad through their paces today, Bombers coach Tim Burke was pleased with what he saw in advance of the Blue and Gold’s Friday tilt against the Toronto Argonauts.

That was especially true on the offensive side of the field, where Bombers coaches have been looking to instill a tighter focus in an attack that’s looked sloppy through the first three weeks of the CFL season.

“I thought they had a pretty good practice,” Burke said. “We have a good scheme against what Toronto is going to do.”

Part of that scheme will involve freeing up quarterback Buck Pierce, Burke said. Yeah, that comes with a little risk too. “I think you’ll see a more wide-open Buck Pierce,” Burke said. “He’s just going to have to be smart about taking hits.”

Bombers long snapper Chris Cvetkovic left practice today with what Burke believed was a calf strain. The coach promised an update on how Cvetkovic is doing Wednesday. On the chance he can’t take the field for Friday’s game against the Argos, rookie linebacker Ian Wild will take his spot — Burke noted the 23-year-old is a fine long snapper.

Wild is already pencilled in to the lineup Friday, taking the spot of injured linebacker Terrell Parker.
