VANCOUVER — Hoping they’ve learned from their mistakes — some of them egregious during their three-game losing streak — the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are at B.C. Place Stadium today to try to turn the ship around against the B.C. Lions in Week 6 of CFL actioni.
The game (6 p.m. CT, TSN, CJOB) will be played on a perfect summer day on the West Coast with the glitzy, refurbished stadium’s retractable roof open to let the sun shine in.
Winnipeg, 1-4, will give quarterback Justin Goltz his second career start. The team named Goltz its No. 1 quarterback in the middle of last week. His debut last week at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg yielded a 37-24 loss against the Calgary Stampeders.
“I think he’s put a little more pressure on himself but we’ve talked to him about that because really nothing’s changed from last week to this week other than probably more media scrutiny,” head coach Tim Burke said in advance of today’s game. “The focus will be more on him from outside of the team.”
Goltz passed for 194 yards, completing 19 of 35 throws last week.
In the week leading up to the game, Burke has admonished his defence numerous times and said this week’s focus will be to be “assignment-sharp.”
The Lions, 3-2, are following up a 38-12 defeat in Toronto last Tuesday, making this a short week of preparation for them.
B.C. is 16-2 in the 18 games it has played in its home stadium since it was re-opened in 2011.
