Towering former Winnipeg Jet forward Nik Antropov will be headed east to find some ice this season.
The 33-year-old centre signed a two-year contract with the Astana Barys of the Kontinental Hockey League, that club announced on Thursday.
Antropov, who himself hails from the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan, joined the Atlanta Thrashers as a free agent four seasons ago, and came with the team to Winnipeg. He became a UFA again after this past season, when the Jets elected not to re-sign him.
Antropov scored six goals and notched 18 points in 40 games last season. The 6’6″ forward was a 1998 first-round draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
