Jan Belanger to receive U of W’s Duff Roblin Award

A top executive at Great-West Life is being honoured with this year’s Duff Roblin Award by the University of Winnipeg.

Jan Belanger, the company’s assistant vice-president of community affairs, will receive the award which recognizes commitment to education and community at a dinner on Nov. 13.

“As an annual tribute to Duff Roblin, we present this award to an individual who mirrors his renowned dedication to both education and the enhancement of community,” U of W vice-chancellor and president Lloyd Axworthy said in a statement today.

“We are pleased to honour Jan Belanger, who has been a long-standing philanthropic leader on behalf of numerous local community organizations, as well as a strong supporter of education. She is a truly deserving recipient.”

Belanger said she shares her award with everyone she has met.

“Every contact, every meeting, is an opportunity to learn from each other,” she said.

“I’ve been privileged to work with a wide range of community and thought leaders and have experienced their insights and commitment.”

The dinner’s proceeds go to support the university’s Community Learning Initiatives. The award, named for a past Premier, has in the past been given to Charles Coffey, Tom Jackson, Kerry Hawkins and Edward S. Kennedy.
