The Zombie Walk is dead.
This year’s annual march of the living dead, set for Saturday, Oct. 12 in Winnipeg, has been scrapped, according to a message posted today on the event website.
“We’re sad to announce that the 7th Annual Winnipeg Zombie Walk is cancelled,” it stated. “The Zombie Walk has become a victim of its own success. Due to rising costs & safety concerns there won’t be a walk this year.”
Emails to event organizers for more information on why they pulled the plug have not been returned today.
A request has been made to the city for information on the permit cost for the event, and whether that cost had risen since the 2012 walk.
Fear not, lovers of blood, guts and gore. The online message stated a Zombie Party at Ozzy’s and The Zoo still has a strong pulse, with $10 tickets still available. Participating zombies are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for Winnipeg Harvest.
