It’s already a given that the 2014 Winnipeg Blue Bombers will look a whole lot different than the crew that soiled the turf in 2013.
And, coming off a 3-15 nightmare, that’s hardly a shocking revelation.
But when the Bombers head to training camp next spring there will undoubtedly be a pile of changes, including a new head coach – still to be determined – working with Kyle Walters and President and CEO Wade Miller. And looking at the official list of potential free agents provided by the Canadian Football League today, the roster will likely be significantly made over, too.
The list of prospective Bomber free agents totals 23 and includes linebacker Henoc Muamba, the club’s Most Outstanding/Canadian/Defensive player who is planning on taking the next two months to sniff around NFL opportunities. Also possibly heading to the market are East Division all-star Will Ford, cornerback Jovon Johnson, centre Justin Sorensen, guards Steve Morley and Marc Parenteau – all Canadians — homegrown receivers Jade Etienne, Akeem Foster and Rory Kohlert, defensive end Kenny Mainor, defensive backs Brandon Stewart and Alex Suber, punter Mike Renaud and running back Chad Simpson and receiver Chris Matthews, both of whom have also indicated they will chase the NFL dream.
There is an usually high number of players heading into free agency this winter as teams need to expose players for the Ottawa Redblacks expansion draft next month and didn’t want to re-sign those who could then be moved to the capital.
All prospective free agents would be free to sign elsewhere on Feb. 15th, 11 a.m.
