Happy winter solstice eve, Winnipeg.

To mark this joyous occasion, Environment Canada is calling for mainly sunny skies this morning before clouds start rolling in this afternoon. Today’s high should be around the -18 C mark, with wind chill values in the low -30s.

Tonight, look for a 30 per cent chance of flurries and cold temperatures. The low is expected to drop down to -27 C, though it will feel like -36 with the wind chill.

On Saturday, which officially is the shortest day of winter thanks to the amount of time it takes the sun to pass through the sky (eight hours, five minutes and 22 seconds), the forecast calls for mainly sunny skies and a high of -24 C (wind chill -38).

The same cold and sunny conditions are expected for Sunday and Monday. Environment Canada says there could be some snow on Christmas Eve.
