Just when you thought the month of December couldn’t get any colder, this morning happens.
It’s ‘stay in bed all day’ cold or ‘why do we live here’ cold, and the mercury isn’t expected to rise much today. Winnipeg woke up to a temperature of -34 C and a wind chill of -43. Environment Canada is forecasting a high of -24 C with a wind chill of -35 this afternoon.
Tonight’s low of -26 C should arrive right around midnight, as some snow and blowing snow is expected to roll into the Winnipeg region. Be mindful of a south wind 20 km/h increasing to 40 km/h (and gusting to 60 km/h) near midnight, as well.
The snow and strong winds should end before noon on Christmas Eve. Tuesday’s high is a balmy -11 C, though it’s expected to feel like -34 with the wind chill.
Look for sunny skies and a high of -16 C on Christmas Day.
