Evander Kane has passed all his tests and will skate against the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday night.
Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice said today that Kane, who has missed four games with a hand laceration, is ready to return to action and will skate with Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler to start the two-game road trip this week.
“Evander’s a player,” Maurice declared after today’s practice at the MTS Iceplex. “He had, leading into today, three hard skates and that’s what we were waiting for, him to feel good so that could handle the puck with a little confidence. More for me is that conditioning to be able to skate.
“Today he was a normal player. We didn’t do anything extra with him after… so he’s in the lineup tomorrow.”
Maurice smiled when asked about Kane’s placement in the lineup.
“I like the possibilities of that line,” the coach said.
The Jets, winners of three straight since Maurice took over a week ago, set off to meet the Ducks today, then go to San Jose to meet the Sharks on Thursday. The teams are ranked first and fourth in the Western Conference standings.
“We’ve done some good things in our game, played stretches of some real fine hockey so we’ll take whatever confidence the National Hockey League will allow you to have going into these games,” the coach said today. “We’re aware of the quality of opponent we have coming up. But you build your confidence where you can.”
This week’s road trip that departs today for Anaheim will include — for the first time for the Jets — most of their fathers.
“For them, it’s great,” Jets captain Andrew Ladd said. “They don’t get to see a lot of the stuff we do on the road or how we travel or how we prepare for games, maybe since our minor-hockey days.
“So it’s fun for them to go to a couple of nice cities, see a couple of different arenas and travel with us and hang out with us. And it’s fun for us, too. They had a big part of getting us to where we are today.”
