City watches as Canada goes for gold

Bars are opening all over the city for fans to gather and watch The Game.

Confusion Corner Bar and Grill is packed to capacity and turning people away.

Winnipeg’s Craig Cottrell is pumped: ” Sitting in the living room, bacon is in the frying pan, enjoying a 1664 Blanc with Orange waiting for the game to start. Wife was suppose to get up but she is still in the cabbage patch. GO CANADA GO.”

At Confusion Corner, Marty Shumka has bellied up to the bar with a pitcher of Keith’s, Lori McGinnis a pitcher of Bud Lite.

Beer and hockey, appropriate whatever the hour, said Shumka.

Asked what a legal beer tastes like this early in the morning, Shumka laughed, pushed it away, and said:” Is this beer legal? Darn. I’m no longer interested.”

And then at 7:21 a.m., Confusion Corner Bar and Grill ran out of Keith’s. By the end of the second period, the bar which started the morning with 20 kegs of beer, was down to eight

From Texas, where Jim and Anne Berry of Teulon are presumably a tad warmer than the rest of us: “We’re up and watching the game from our winter get away in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, while enjoying a mimosa. I see a lot of other lights on in our Canadian neighbours places as well. Nice to see Manitoban Jonathon Toews get the first goal. Go Canada.”

Patrick Finlayson is definitely warmer than the rest of us. “Watching a great game in Palm Springs at 4 a.m. Listening to the coyotes howling outside. (Could be wailing American fans??)”.

Dave Newsham chimes in: “Sports bar serving Canadians in Myan Riviera.  The place is packed! Go Canada!”

Seriously, is this bar the only place Manitobans are today except hot countries? Jim and Audrey Swail add their cheering: “We are watching Team Canada play a terrific GOLD game from Myrtle Beach, SC. It’s funtastic! Go Canada Go! Proud Canadians!!”

Well, maybe not because out at Camp Manitou, the Lorette Guides are streaming the game live.
