Winnipeg’s 5468796 Architecture Inc. has won a Governor General’s Medals in Architecture for the OMS Stage (the Cube).
The Canada Council for the Arts and RAIC | Architecture Canada announced today that the young firm is one of 12 winners of the award, which celebrates outstanding design in recently completed projects by Canadian architects.
A jury’s comment praised the design of the structure that’s the site of many summer festivals in Winnipeg’s Exchange District.
“Its innovative and flexible design allows for constant transformation to accommodate a variety of programs and activities, year round.”
OMS Stage is an open-air performance venue made from 20,000 hollow aluminum pieces strung together on cables. The front of the stage has a metal curtain that can stand as a wall or retract to open the performance area.
