Bombers to help local coaches attend certification program

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are offering to cover the costs of any local amateur football coaches interested in taking the National Coaches Certification Program at Investors Group Field next month.

The club said in a release Monday morning that they’ll cover the registration fees for local coaches so that they can upgrade their skills without having to dip into their team’s funds or their own pocket.

“As the leader of football in the province of Manitoba, holding a clinic like this allows us to fulfill our mandate of giving back,” Bombers CEO Wade Miller said in a statement. “The amateur athletes in our community are the future of football, and one of the best ways for us to support them is to support their coaches.”

“This clinic confirms again the Blue Bombers commitment to amateur football in the province,” Shawn Coates, executive director of Football Manitoba, said in a statement. “We are very grateful that they are enabling coaches to receive high-quality training for the betterment of our young athletes.”

The course runs May 9-10 at the stadium and will include on-field and in-class instruction from Bombers, Winnipeg Rifles and University of Manitoba Bisons alumni.
