The city is trying a new approach when it comes to selling off its used vehicle fleet.
Introduced as a pilot project, the city launched a website this morning specifically aimed at moving its surplus fleet vehicles to the general public. The website, replacing the old system of holding private auction sales, will revise and update the list of assets (vehicles, equipment and materials) as they become out-dated or obsolete.

“This new approach for the disposal of surplus assets will allow us to obtain the best resale value possible and create additional revenue for the city,” city financial officer Mike Ruta said in a statement.
Vehicles and equipment listed on the website are available for viewing by appointment and will be sold ‘as is’ with no guarantees or warranties. Appointments can be made at (204) 918-3608 or by email at SurplusSales@winnipeg.ca.
The pilot project is similar to the Calgary model of selling off vehicle and equipment assets. Calgary reports revenues of 10 to 20 per cent higher through its website offering than those sold through auction.
