Trouba back in Winnipeg after minor injury

Jacob Trouba’s World Championships adventure is over after the American squad sent him back to Winnipeg for precautionary reasons because of a minor neck injury.

The Jets defenceman was averaging over 23 minutes of ice time for the U.S. and had two goals and an assist in four games in Belarus when he injured his neck in a game against Latvia.

During his spectacular rookie campaign in which he had 10 goals and 19 assists in 65 games, Trouba hurt his neck in a game against St. Louis when he slammed into the end boards. That setback caused him to miss a month of action.

Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff issues the following statement Wednesday:

“Last week, following Team USA’s game versus Latvia at the IIHF World Championships in Minsk, Belarus, Jacob experienced some discomfort in his neck. After consultation with the Team USA medical staff and officials, it was determined that he should return to Winnipeg as a precaution due to his previous injury history. Jacob flew to Winnipeg this past weekend and met with team doctors for a series of tests which revealed he had sustained a mild neck strain. This will not affect Jacob’s off-season training or preparation for next season’s training camp in any way.”

Added Trouba through his Twitter account:

“Disappointed to come home early from the World Championships. Thankful there was no serious injury, this neck has to last me my whole life.”
