Winnipeg illusionist Darcy Oake has advanced to the finals of Britain’s Got Talent after a live “teleporting” performance Monday night on the show in London.
Oake began the brief illusion by being placed under a white sheet while sitting on a chair on a podium on the stage. When the sheet was removed some 30 seconds later, Oake had vanished, only to reappear seconds later as the cameraman apparently shooting the scene.
“You are incredible,” celebrity judge Amanda Holden said, of Oake. “You’re such a pro. You did that like you had your own show already. Please, God, hope you’re in the final.”
Added judge Simon Cowell: “You’re got an incredible stage presence and it’s unbelievable.”
Oake, 26, was one of just two semifinalists who performed on Monday night’s show to advance to the finals out of eight acts. There were a total of 45 acts in the semifinals, which will continue this week on the mega popular ITV show. Oake’s next appearance will be on next Saturday, according to the BGT website.
Oake’s first performance on the show included the appearance of several doves out of mid-air – and later a female assistant from a box on stage. But at the outset of Monday’s act, Oake came on stage and announced to the audience: “That’s what got me here. But tonight, I want to try something different. No fancy costumes. No dancing girls. No big boxes. Just pure illusion.”
