The University of Winnipeg has a new tool to show pride in the school: A specialty licence place for U of W students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff members was unveiled Monday.
The U of W logo is featured in the bottom left corner of the plates with the words “Discover Achieve Belong” across the bottom. All licence plate numbers begin with UW.
The plates, administered by Manitoba Public Insurance, will be available beginning June 9 at a cost of $70, with $30 of that fee going toward scholarships for U of W Wesmen athletes and inner-city youth sports and recreation programming supported by the school.

“This plate allows current, former and future students – as well as parents, friends, donors, alumni, faculty and staff – to let the world know they are proud to be part of the UWinnipeg community,” Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Winnipeg, said in a media release.
The U of W has 10,000 international, undergrad and graduate students, a press release stated.
“The University of Winnipeg has roots in our community dating back more than 130 years,” said Andrew Swan, the minister responsible for MPI. “Consistently recognized for its commitment to academic excellence and educational access, as well as innovative post-secondary and community programming, the University of Winnipeg is deeply deserving of a specialty plate to call its own.”
People interested in purchasing a University of Winnipeg license plate can purchase one from any of Manitoba’s 300+ Autopac agents beginning next Monday.
