If you have some spare time this weekend, consider helping out with sandbagging in flood affected areas like St. Francis Xavier.

The rural municipality 20 minutes west of Winnipeg asked for sandbagging volunteers this morning as the water levels on the Assiniboine River are quickly rising and endangering nearby homes.

There are currently about 15 volunteers helping out at St. Francis Xavier and a municipal spokesperson said they could use all the help they can get.

Volunteers help build a sandbag dike around homes in the town of Reston in southwestern Manitoba on Sunday after incessant rainfall creating overland flooding in the community. Reston was hit hard by flooding just over a year ago.
