It was a perfect day for golf during the first round of the 2014 Nott Autocorp Men’s Amateur Championship.
Despite a little rain near the end, the low wind and clear skies allowed veteran players Garth Collings and Todd Fanning to breeze through the course at Links at Quarry Oaks Golf and Country Club. Both players shot a five-under 67.
But the two seasoned players had company — University of Manitoba Bisons’ golfer Burke Wiebe also scored a 67 to sit in a three-way tie after round one. Another Bison, Charlie Boyechko, sits alone in fourth place after shooting four-under 68.
Josh Wytinck, named Golf Manitoba’s 2013 Amateur Golfer of the Year, shot a two-over 74 and currently sits in a tie for 18th place.
This year’s championship will play the first two rounds at Quarry Oaks before playing the last two rounds at Niakwa Country Club, where both Fanning and Wiebe are members.
