The UCLA student, originally from Chicago, finished his round with an uphill birdie at No. 9, Elmhurst’s normal No. 18.

Through today’s early wave, Garrick’s advantage is two shots over Southwood’s Bret Thompson, who shot 68 on his home course today to get to six-under-par. He shares that spot with Corey Conners of Listowel, Ont., who was 68 at Elmhurst today, and Blair Hamilton of Burlington, Ont., who shot 68 at Southwood.

First-round co-leader Brian Bullington of Frankfort, Ill, was 66 at Southwood on Monday and is out at Elmhurst this afternoon.

Ontario ran away with the annual team Willingdon Cup competition among provincial teams.

With Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith and Chris Hemmerich, all national team members, providing scores, Ontario won by eight shots over Alberta. Manitoba, with Todd Fanning (72 today at Elmhurst), Bryce Sholdice (75 today) and Charlie Boyechko (80 today) finished fourth at plus-six, 15 behind.
