Bowman touts tri-level transportation partnership

Mayoral candidate Brian Bowman wants to create a new tri-level government partnership to help co-ordinate long-term transportation planning.

The Winnipeg lawyer promised today to pool existing and new sources of road, transit and active-transportation funding in an effort to co-ordinate future construction.

Bowman said this cash would occupy a single fund but could not estimate its initial size. He said he would like the city, province and Ottawa to work together more closely on projects such as the Southwest Transitway, which he cited as suffering from delays due to political indecision‎.

Bowman reiterated his support for the completion of the Southwest Transitway as the project is currently planned. He promised to divulge more details about his transportation-planning platform on T‎hursday.

Bowman also promised to make the names of all new campaign donors public on Sept. 24 – and seek permission from existing donors to make their names public as well.

On Tuesday, fellow mayoral candidate Paula Havixbeck pledged to make her donors public by Oct. 15.

The City Clerk’s Office publishes a list of all donors who contribute more than $250 to any candidate the year after an election.
