A new defensive lineman is set to join the Winnipeg Blue Bombers after the team made a trade with the Toronto Argonauts.
Thaddeus Gibson is Winnipeg-bound in exchange for the Bombers’ defensive back Alex Suber, who signed on with the Bombers in 2010 but hasn’t played this season.
“Alex has been a consummate professional for this franchise for nearly five seasons. We thank him for everything he has done for this organization both on and off the field, and wish him the best in Toronto,” Bombers’ General Manager Kyle Walters said in a Tuesday night news release announcing the trade.
Gibson, 26, played five games and started in three with the Argos after signing on with the team in May, recording six tackles, one sack and one interception, the release said.
Gibson played three seasons for the Ohio State Buckeyes before moving into the NFL. He spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys.
“Thaddeus has professional football experience on both sides of the border, has shown great promise when he’s had opportunities to get in the lineup, and will add depth to our defensive line immediately,” Walters said in the release.
