Former Winnipeg Blue Bomber Dave Donaldson is entering politics.

The 10-year CFL defensive back and receiver, who played for the Bombers and three other clubs, has joined the long list of candidates hoping to replace 22-year city councillor Harvey Smith in the Daniel McIntyre ward in next month’s civic election.

“Daniel McIntyre is my blood,” Donaldson said in a statement. “When I wore the blue and gold on the field I was wearing Daniel Mac on my sleeve.”
