Winnipeg police and the RCMP are alerting the community that a convicted sex offender who has targeted children in the past is moving into the Winnipeg area.

Ryan James Gabourie is expected to live in the city following his scheduled release from the Headingley Correctional Institution today. The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit (MIHRSOU), a joint forces unit made up of Winnipeg police and RCMP members, has reason to believe the 32-year-old is likely to offend again, despite participating in sex offender treatment while in prison.

It’s believed male and female children are at risk.

Gabourie is described as Caucasian, approximately 5-foot-8 and 198-pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Gabourie has a prior criminal record that includes five counts of sexual assault, molesting five young boys (aged 5 to 11 years old) by entering their homes through unlocked windows or doors and sexually assaulting them in their beds while their families were sleeping nearby.

His most recent conviction was a breach of probation back in January — three days after he was released from prison.

Gabourie has also been arrested for being in the possession of child pornography.

Under the terms of his probation, Gabourie is prohibited from being near children in any public recreation spaces (pool, community club, playground) and is not allowed to have a computer or access to the Internet. He will also be subject to a 10 p.m. curfew.

If you have any information or questions about Gabourie, please contact MIHRSOU at (204) 984-1888.
