​No, the Jets aren’t playing this morning — those 16,000 ebullient young people heading for the MTS Centre are going to the fourth-annual We Day Manitoba.

High school students from throughout Manitoba and northwestern Ontario are packing the arena in a celebration of their commitment to social justice projects both locally and globally.

You can’t buy a ticket to We Day — you have to earn it.

Follow along as the thousands of Manitoba students descend on downtown Winnipeg to hear an impressive list of motivational speakers and performers.

Speaking are former Irish president Mary Robinson, Canadian astronaut Dr. Dave Williams, environmental activist Severn Suzuki and Travis Price, co-founder of the anti-bullying Pink Shirt Day. Featured speaker Kweku Mandela is a social advocate, filmmaker and grandson of Nelson Mandela. Performers include Hedley, Shawn Desman and Kardinal Offishall.

Free the Children founders Marc and Craig Kielburger will host the five-hour event.

We Day is one of the world’s largest registered charities on social media, with more than five million followers. Hundreds of thousands of young people will come together in stadium and arena gatherings in 14 cities in Canada, the U.S., and the U.K. to take part in this educational initiative, organizers said.
