Doug Brown did it all during his time with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers but win a Grey Cup.

Brown made the trip to the big game three times during his 10 years with the Bombers losing all three times.

The Vancouver native and Winnipeg resident has been voted the defensive lineman on the Winnipeg Free Press/TSN 1290 All-Time Blue Bombers Team.

“Anytime you are grouped with players that span the history of a franchise with as glorious a past as the Bombers, well, that’s the honour and award in itself. Just to be in the discussion,” said Brown.

Brown won the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian Award in 2001 and then stayed with the team until hisretirement in 2011. During that time he was named a CFL All-Star eight times.

“Staying in Winnipeg all that time, part of it was for selfish reasons,” said Brown. “I wanted to be on that team that brought the Grey Cup back to this city. To be part of the solution and not the problem. This city deserves a championship.”

Voters have selected Ken Ploen as the quarterback, Chris Walby as the offensive lineman, Greg Battle as the linebacker, Bob Cameron as the kicker, Lewis as kick returner and running back and Doug Brown as the defensive lineman of the Free Press/TSN 1290 All-Time Bombers Team.

Voting began Monday and fans were given the choice of five defensive lineman as chosen by the All-Time Blue Bombers Team panel, comprising legendary coach Bud Grant, former player and GM Paul Robson, Hall of Fame football writer Ed Tait, Andrew (Hustler) Paterson from TSN 1290 and myself.

Next up is defensive back. The Free Press print and digital editions as well as www.tsn1290.ca will run stories Monday outlining the careers of the finalists selected by our panel.

Voting will take place on both websites.

Vote a maximum of once per day and help choose the Blue Bombers player you consider the best at the following positions, to be presented in this order: Quarterback, offensive lineman, linebacker, kicker, kick returner, running back, defensive lineman, defensive back and receiver.
