The CFL has announced Bombers kicker Lirim Hajrullahu as the West Division’s nominee for Most Outstanding Special Teams Player.

Hajrullahu is the only Bomber to be earn one of the six division outstanding player awards, which are voted on by 68 members of the Football Reporters of Canada and head coaches across the league. It comes after a breakout rookie season for the Western University alumnus, who popped through 87 per cent of his field goals, including a 51-yard boot. He went 11-for-14 from 40 yards or longer, and made 22 of his first 24 field goal attempts.

“As a head coach, you are always proud of your players for putting it maximum effort and achieving success,” Bombers Head Coach Mike O’Shea said in a statement. “Lirim was a solid piece of our football team this season, and for him to be recognized as the top special teams players in the division is a testament to his work ethic, focus and consistency.”

For the league-wide award, Hajrullahu is up against Toronto Argonauts kicker and East Division nominee Swayze Waters.

The CFL awards will be handed out at a special awards show in Vancouver on Nov. 27, as part of the Grey Cup festivities. Other West nominees include B.C. Lions standout Solomon Elimimian, who is nominated for most valuable player and most valuable defensive player, Calgary running back John Cornish as top Canadian, his teammate Brett Jones as top offensive lineman, and Edmonton safety Dexter McCoil as outstanding rookie.

In the East, nominees include Argonauts pivot Ricky Ray as most valuable player, Montreal LB Bear Woods as top defensive player, Hamilton DT Ted Laurent as most valuable Canadian, Montreal’s Jeff Perrett as most valuable OL, and Toronto DE Tristan Okpalaugo as most valuable rookie.
