The Bombers are bringing Canadian offensive lineman Pat Neufeld back into the fold through 2017.
On Wednesday, the club announced they had signed Neufeld, who started eight games last season, to a contract extension. They’d picked him up in a trade with Saskatchewan late in 2013, sending Alex Hall to the Riders for their Grey Cup run.
Neufeld had battled a calf injury through much of last season, a fact Blue Bombers GM Kyle Walters alluded to in a statement. “Obviously we need him to stay healthy, and Pat knows that more than anybody,” Walters said in a release. “He is a hard-working young man, and we have full confidence he will make a solid impact on our offensive line in 2015.”
A Saskatchewan product, Neufeld said it was “a great thing” to have a plan for the future. “When I was first traded to Winnipeg from the Riders, obviously it was hard to leave family and where I grew up,” he said in a Bombers release. “It quickly became clear Winnipeg is a great spot to play football.”
