Evidently the Blue Bombers liked what they saw from Canadian DB Derek Jones this season, signing the rookie to a contract extension.

The club had originally snagged Jones, a Simon Fraser alumnus, 29th overall in the 2014 draft. He played in all 18 games through the season, mostly on special teams, and where he notched six tackles and added six more defensive take-downs.

In a statement, Bombers GM Kyle Walters called Jones “a bright young man” who the club thinks has more to offer. “He’s a guy we feel is maybe underrated at this point,” Walters said. “After only one season in our league, we wanted to make sure he remained a Blue Bombers moving forward. This is a player who will just continue to get better, and that’s what we look forward to watching.”
