A Steinbach man is facing charges in a fatal collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in downtown Winnipeg last April.
On Apr. 5, 2014, Amy Gilbert, 23, was killed when she was struck by a vehicle heading eastbound on Broadway near Donald Street at approximately 5:30 p.m.
The University of Winnipeg student was rushed to hospital in unstable condition and later succumbed to her injuries.
A 25-year-old man was held at the scene and released without charges pending further investigation by members of the central traffic unit.
The man was arrested Monday and is facing charges of driving while ability impaired causing death and a dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing death. He was released on a promise to appear in court.
Gilbert’s family and friends are hosting a social in the young woman’s honour next month to raise money to fund a scholarship in her name at the U of W.
