A new video scoreboard, some new seating options and variety of smaller upgrades will keep construction crews inside the MTS Centre busy this summer.
Plans are set for the downtown barn to receive its previously-scheduled facelift, True North Sports and Entertainment announced this morning, with upgrades scheduled to be completed before the 2015-16 Winnipeg Jets season gets underway.
The central figure in the arena enhancement is a new, high definition video scoreboard that will replace the current ornament high above centre ice. The new board will feature four primary screens that are 2.5 times the physical size and three times the resolution of the screens on the existing scoreboard.

The new board will also feature two large ‘video rings’ situated above and below the screens.
Part of the $12-million renovation this summer will also include the addition of 278 ‘loge-style’ seats located in the 300 level of the building. The loge seats will be situated above the luxury suites and can be accessed through the upper concourse. The cost will be $134.40 per seat, and a $500 seat licence will be tacked on to the season ticket package.
Other improvements slated to be added to the MTS Centre will be a new 360-degree power ring, seamless glass around the front row of the 300 level (replacing the wire mesh railing) and a new state-of-the-art production room that will manage the visuals that will come through the new video equipment and audio systems.
The upgrades are a part of a broader True North 2020 facility improvement plan that began in 2013.
