Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for all of southern Manitoba this morning, as wind chill values continue to hover around the -43 range. Expect conditions to moderate slightly throughout the day before the extreme cold returns later this evening.

In Winnipeg, the forecast for today calls for a mainly sunny sky, a wind blowing from the northwest 20 km/h and a high of -22 C. The normal high for this time of year is -7 C.

Tonight’s low is expected to drop to -32 C. The normal low is -17 C.

The extremely cold conditions will hang around for another day or so, with Thursday’s forecast high coming in at -18 C. Wind chill values could be in the -40 range.

Look for cloudy skies and a 60 per cent chance of flurries for Friday. The high is expected to reach -13 C.

Sunshine and cold temperatures are forecast for the weekend.

In Brandon, the temperature today at 6 a.m. was -32 C, with a -43 wind chill. Brandon School Division buses will not be operating outside the city of Brandon, however, schools are open. Attendance is at parental discretion where travel is required.

Buses will be running within the city of Brandon.
