Hey there, time traveller!

CALGARY — Manitoba’s Reid Carruthers lost 6-4 to Team Canada’s John Morris at the Scotiabank Saddledome Saturday afternoon in the opening draw of the 2015 Tim Hortons Brier.
Manitoba led Canada 3-1 at the fifth end break and outshot Canada 90-83 as a team, but a late-ends collapse that included steals for Canada in the seventh and eighth ends turned the tables and handed Carruthers a defeat in what was his Brier debut as a skip.
“After the break, we didn’t come out with the same game we had going into it,” said Carruthers. “We had a couple good ends and I had a shot in eight for the game — I had a shot for four and it was a straight spot and I threw it a little bit outside and we missed the shot.
“We’ve got to get a better grasp on the ice.”
Carruthers and company won’t have much time to correct things — they’re back on the ice for Draw 2 Saturday evening against Saskatchewan’s Steven Laycock. “We don’t want to start 0-2. Tonight is going to be a battle against a great team,” said Carruthers.
Laycock also lost his opening game, falling 7-5 to Newfoundland’s Brad Gushue.
In other opening draw games, Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs defeated Quebec’s Jean-Michel Menard 7-4 and PEI’s Adam Casey defeated Yukon’s Robert Smallwood 7-6 in an extra end.
The PEI win advanced Casey to the Brier round-robin, while Yukon joins Nova Scotia as the two teams eliminated in the Brier’s first ever pre-qualifier round.
Earlier on Saturday, Manitoba lead Colin Hodgson won the pre-event skills competition and a two-year lease on a truck.
The 24-year-old Manitoba lead — the only member of Carruthers’ squad without previous Brier experience — won the competition, defeating Saskatchewan lead Dallan Muyres 26-16 Saturday morning.
“I can fit my car in the back of it — so I’m pretty excited about that,” Hodgson said of his new vehicle.
Hodgson was asked how he intends to split the proceeds of a two-year truck lease with his Manitoba teammates. “I have absolutely no idea. I didn’t expect to go win that.
