The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced Thursday that they have signed non-import receiver Jordan Reaves — son of former Bombers great Willard Reaves — to a contract.

Reaves (6-5, 220) was a standout basketball player at Brandon University from 2009-14 and also played some pro basketball in Slovenia and France last year.

The 25-year-old also played some football prior to university and he worked out for the Bombers a couple weeks ago and took part in last month’s CFL regional combine in Edmonton.

“We’ve seen him work twice now, once here and once in Edmonton, and he’s a tremendous athlete,” said Blue Bombers general manager Kyle Walters in a statement. “All of his measurable qualities were really remarkable and he did not look out of place even with his limited football background. He’s a very intriguing prospect for the future.”

The Bombers said Reaves will attend their mini-camp in Florida, which begins April 19.

Reaves is the brother of St. Louis Blues forward Ryan Reaves and the son of former Bombers tailback and Hall of Famer Willard Reaves, who was a three-time CFL all-star for the Bombers in the 1980s and the first ever Bombers tailback to win the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award.

Also Thursday, the Bombers announced that they have signed import running back Da’Rel Scott and import defensive end/linebacker Derrell Johnson.

Scott (5-11, 210, Maryland) was a seventh-round pick of the New York Giants in 2011 and played in 20 NFL games, recording 31 carries for 98 yards and 13 catches for 115 yards and 1 TD.

Johnson (6-2, 255, East Carolina) played both defensive end and linebacker at East Carolina and led his team with 80 tackles his senior year in 2013. He went undrafted but did spend time last year with both the Miami Dolphins and the Arizona Cardinals.
