STEINBACH — In hostile territory, despite a fight, the Portage Terriers finished their stunning march to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s top prize.
The Terriers completed a four-game sweep of the Steinbach Pistons in the best-of-seven final series on Tuesday night, clinching the Turnbull Trophy with a 4-3 win. They did it in front of a loud and sold-out crowd at Steinbach’s T.G. Smith Arena, though there were plenty of black-and-green Terriers jerseys in attendance.
With the win, the Terriers finished a season that began with a record-setting 53-3-4 performance during the regular campaign. The team was unstoppable in the MJHL post-season, going 12-0 in winning three playoff series.
Now, the Terriers return home to prepare for the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup, April 25 to May 3 in Fort McMurray, Alta.
Now matter how they fare at that event, the Terriers will host the national junior A championship, the RBC Cup, which will kick off on May 7.
