Despite crowds of cheering fans and the presence of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Winnipeg Jets were knocked out of the playoffs after losing their fourth straight game to the Anaheim Ducks 5-2.

The immediate reaction to the loss was not to riot in the streets, but to give the team a standing ovation and congratulate them on their first stab at the playoffs.

Who’s to blame??

Some chose to blame Harper, who came to the game not wearing the traditional white t-shirt or jersey, but a white and red Team Canada jersey.

Mr. Harper’s reason:

Sad trombone

As the dust cleared, a bleary-eyed Winnipeg awoke to a world where their team was swept in their first playoff attempt since their return to Winnipeg.

Props to the fans

Former Jets star Teemu Selanne, gave his "respect" for the team’s hard work this year and the fans.

In fact, fans received buckets of praise over the past 24 hours.

Fans, animated

And rightly so! Here’s a taste of some of the fans, courtesy of the Free Press’s multimedia editor Melissa Tait.

"We’re number one. Believe it. Word."

Even more rare than the unicorn: the elusive quadricorn:

On the bright side…

Meanwhile, Jets right-winger Blake Wheeler, tried to remain positive, despite the loss.

Jets centre Mark Scheifele called it a year he would "never forget."

There’s always next year, right?

And… at least the Jets made it to the playoffs.
