Free Slurpee Day is becoming almost like a civic holiday in Winnipeg.

For the 16th straight year, the city has captured the title of Slurpee Capital of the World for drinking the most flavoured slush. Calgary and Detriot finished a close second and third.

The reward includes free Slurpees on Saturday, July 11 at all 7-Eleven outlets from 11 a.m to 7 p.m. The chain store plans to give away 67,500 Slurpee drinks.

As well, 7-Eleven is celebrating in Winnipeg by creating the World’s Largest Slurpee drink, holding 711 litres.

The feat will take place at 119 Salter Street. There will also be birthday cake, live music, games and giveaways, between 11-11:30 a.m.

To top it off, 7-Eleven is supporting a 71.1 mile (114.4 km) Slurpee Run. Marathon runner Scott Burton, along with a team of other runners, will attempt to race to all 45 7-Eleven locations in Winnipeg that day.

7-Eleven plans to give away about 750,000 Slurpee drinks across Canada.
