The Free Press has recruited a senior editor from the Globe and Mail to oversee the newsroom’s production and engagement efforts.

Sarah Lilleyman joined the Free Press late last month, after serving as the Globe’s Toronto editor.

“Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge and perspective from her years at the Globe, where she had quickly moved up the ranks,” Free Press editor Paul Samyn said.

“This is a critical time for the Free Press as we move forward with a bold new paid digital strategy and redefine what a newspaper can and should be. To have someone of the calibre of Sarah helping lead that shift as an associate editor will help us better serve our readers on all our platforms.”

Lilleyman, born and raised in Toronto, is a journalism graduate from the University of King’s College in Halifax.

In addition to her time at the Globe, she held a senior role at the Toronto Star and worked as an intern at Time magazine.

“I’m thrilled to join the team at the Free Press, a news organization that’s part of the fabric of this city and province.” Lilleyman said.

“The Free Press has such a rich history and a bright future — I look forward to driving engagement with our growing digital audience.”
