Forlorn felines are in luck.
The Winnipeg Humane Society announced today they will be partnering with Winnipeg Lost Cat Alert to try to reunite more lost cats with their families.
“Although we can reunite many, many cats with their owner, I know we can — and must — do better. More successful reunions means we are all happy: cat, owner, WHS,” said Javier Schwersensky, WHS CEO, in a news release.
The Humane Society receives more than 5,500 cats per year, 2,100 of which are stray. Winnipeg Lost Cat Alert finds more than 1,000 cats per year.
The WHS and WLCA urge cat-owners to keep their veterinarian records up to date to make for easier reunions with their pets.
“Too many cats lack ID which makes locating their owners difficult,” said Claudia Allen of Winnipeg Lost Cat Alert in the release. “But, when you tell someone their cat has finally been found, their reaction is worth everything it took to get them home.”
Lost and found cats can be reported on the WLCA Facebook page and to the Humane Society (204-982-2025).
