Mudge, Jones to be inducted into Bombers hall of fame

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are welcoming two more icons to their hall of fame.

The club announced Friday morning that offensive lineman Dave Mudge and former assistant GM Paul Jones will be inducted into their shrine during the 103rd Grey Cup Festival in November.

Mudge joined the Bombers in 2000 after beginning his career with the Toronto Argonauts and was the CFL Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2001. He was twice named a CFL all-star during his days with the Bombers and lauded for his durability and technique while manning the tackle position. He was active in the community before retirement and has since moved to Montreal, where he works on the Alouettes radio broadcasts.

“I am thrilled to find out that I will be inducted into the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Hall of Fame,“ said Mudge in a statement “I am humbled to be added to this great list of players and to become a larger part of the Blue Bomber tradition. I truly enjoyed my time in Winnipeg and I keep with me irreplaceable memories of football, teammates and friends.”

Jones first made contact with the Bombers as a player agent and later became known as one of pro football’s best talent scouts, consistently feeding the club players first as the director of player personnel in 1988 before being named the assistant GM. He worked nine years with the Bombers before leaving for the Minnesota Vikings, then the Argonauts before landing in Edmonton, where he has remained for the past 17 years.

Over his career, he has seven Grey Cup appearances, four Grey Cup wins, 31 playoff game appearances, and has been part of eight division championship teams.

“I am very honoured and humbled to have been a part of such an outstanding organization. I am thankful that the Bombers gave me the opportunity and welcomed me with my first job in professional football. The staff and players that I worked with as a part of my career in Winnipeg, I will forever cherish and be grateful for,” said Jones.

The induction ceremony will take place at the Blue Bomber Breakfast on Thursday, November 26th at the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre in downtown Winnipeg.
