PENTICTON, B.C. — Regaining some expected form, the Winnipeg Jets sprung to life today at the Canucks Young Stars Classic at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Scott Kosmachuk scored his first goal of the tournament at 2:09 of the three-on-three overtime period and lifted the Jets to a 5-4 victory over the prospects of the Edmonton Oilers.

Winnipeg, which started and finished this game strongly, ended the four-team tournament with one win in three games. The Oilers, who scored 14 times in their first two games, lost for the first time in three games.

The Jets roared to their second two-goal lead of the day with an early burst in the third period.

Chase De Leo connected with a bank-in power-play goal at 2:20 of the frame. Nikolaj Ehler’s third assist of the game got De Leo the puck.

Ehlers had been held pointless in the tournament until today.

Josh Morrissey followed with a rebound goal at 7:30 for the 4-2 lead.

But Edmonton’s Josh Winquist roofed a close-in shot at 11:20 and Alexis Loiseau found a loose puck and slipped it five-hole to tie the game at 16:29 to make the finish close.

The Jets looked more energetic than they had all weekend, starting today’s game with some jump and some attack.

It paid off with some nifty playing by the line of Andrew Copp, Nikolaj Ehlers and 2015 draft pick Michael Spacek, who was promoted to the line.

Copp banged in a rebound at 6:26 of the first and then scored a second time with a devilishly good two-on-one pass from Ehlers, making it 2-0 by the 10:06 mark.

The Oilers regained one of the goals with just 3.8 seconds left in the first, a deflection by Alexis Loiseau, then tied the game with a second-period power-play goal by Braden Christoffer.

Eric Comrie played the entire game for the Jets and like his partner for the tournament — and likely this AHL season with the Moose — Connor Hellebuyck, was quite sharp.

He had to contend with 34 Edmonton shots today.
