With two weeks to go before the vote, Elections Canada is still looking for poll workers for federal ridings Elmwood-Transcona, Winnipeg Centre, and Churchill.

About 50 employees are still needed in each of Elmwood-Transcona and Winnipeg Centre, Kenny said. She did not know how many are still needed in the sprawling northern riding of Churchill-Keewatinook Aski.

“We’re looking for quite a bit,” said Marie-France Kenny, Elections Canada regional media officer.

The scramble to find workers is not unusual, she said.

“I had a conference call with colleagues across the country. Everyone’s doing a big push.”

People can make $210 for working up to 14 hours as clerks on election day, she said. If they work at an advance polling station, they can earn about $600 for four eight-hour days. Workers also earn $50 for attending a separate training session.

Applicants must be a Canadian citizen and at least 16 years old on election day. You must also agree to refrain from any partisan political activity during your employment.
