ABOUT THE ISLANDERS
– The Islanders opened up a new era in their home opener Friday night, playing their first regular-season game away from the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island at their new home — the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
“It was a great atmosphere,” head coach Jack Capuano told reporters afterward. “You don’t really know what it’s going to feel like until you get out there, but I thought the fans were into it, it was loud. Obviously a different atmosphere than the Coliseum, but I think the guys were looking forward to this game and dropping the puck tonight.”
– The Isles dropped that game 3-2 in OT to Chicago and are 0-1-1 to open the 15-16 season after losing to the Blackhawks in Illinois 4-1 on Saturday.
– New York is without goaltender Jaroslav Halak (upper-body) and started rookie Jean-Francois Berube Saturday in Chicago.
– Dauphin product and former Brandon Wheat Kings star Ryan Pulock — drafted 15th overall by the Isles in 2013 — is the only rookie on the roster and the only player yet to make his NHL debut.
