The Winnipeg Jets were defeated 5-3 by the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center in Washington Wednesday night.
Evgeny Kuznetsov scored the game-winner at the 13:44 mark of the third period.
Nicklas Backstrom and Dmitry Orlove scored for the Capitals in the middle frame, while Mathieu Perreault replied for the Jets.

The teams came out firing in the first period, with the Caps’ Justin Williams starting the proceedings just 1:12 after the opening faceoff. Tyler Myers responded for the Jets at 6:38, and Jets captain Andrew Ladd sniped at 13:01. Alex Ovechkin got that one back with a power-play tally at 18:46.
Michael Hutchinson faced 34 shots in the Jets net, while the Caps’ Braden Holtby had 26 shots directed his way.
