The Manitoba Taxicab Board has started a comprehensive review of the taxicab services in Winnipeg in the hopes of addressing all sorts of key service and supply questions.
The professional services firm, MNP LLP has been awarded the contract that is expected to deal with issues including supply and demand; fare structure and charges; safety, security and accessibility; new technologies; and services; and licensing requirements, standards, training and procedures.
MNP will gather data for two months and then hold an extensive public and industry consultative process. It is expected to be completed in about six months.
Among other things, the potential entrance to the market of ride-sharing services like Uber are expected to be part of the process.
MNP will come up with a range of recommendations for the board.
