Police seek info after boy with intellectual disability thrown into dumpster

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the two men who allegedly assaulted a 13-year-old boy with an intellectual disability and threw him in a North End garbage bin. Police held a press conference today to urge anyone with information to come forward.

The incident happened in the 700 block of Flora Avenue at about 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7. A woman found the boy, Jean-Micheal Morrissette, in the dumpster and helped him out. The woman who found him was unable to get any information from him as to what had happened and the victim, who wasn’t physically hurt, walked away.

The incident was reported to police Jan. 13 but they have been unable to identify the two male suspects.

There are no suspect descriptions.

Police are asking that anyone with information regarding this incident or the identity of the suspects to contact investigators at (204) 986-2848 or CrimeStoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).

John Morrissette, the teen’s dad, pleaded with someone to come forward with information which could lead to the arrest of the people who tossed his child into a dumpster.

“Think about it as being your son,” Morrissette said.

“Your daughter. Put yourself in my situation. Think about your child and how you would feel. That’s all I’m asking.”

Detective Sgt. Rob Kanaski said police are asking the public for help because they have no leads.

Kanaski said police have blanketed the area with leaflets and knocked on doors.

“We don’t know why or who did it,” he said.
