The NDP fired an early volley in the provincial election campaign Monday, portraying itself as “the only feminist party.”

An NDP government will strengthen the office of Manitoba Status of Women to improve pay equity, said Sharon Blady, the party’s candidate in Kirkfield Park.

The NDP will also spend $1 million in new funding to combat gender-based violence, she said.

It will ensure greater gender equity in government boards, said Blady.

The announcements come on the eve of International Women’s Day on Tuesday.
