Jacquie Traverse, the woman who has started a safe ride program for First Nations women in Winnipeg, will be honoured in an International Women’s Day profile on Facebook.

Traverse, a Winnipeg artist, started a ride-sharing group called Ikwe (women helping women safe ride) on Facebook last month.

Traverse will be part of a photo album featuring five inspirational women from across the globe who use Facebook to make the world more equal for women. International Women’s Day is on Tuesday.

Traverse was photographed by Mihaela Noroc, creator of The Atlas of Beauty Facebook Page, who travelled to Winnipeg for the assignment.

Using the Ikwe page on Facebook, women who can offer rides are asked to join the group and post availability. Women needing rides are also asked to join the group so they can privately message someone to book safe transportation.
